This rainy, cloudy weather makes you long for the good old days – last year – when we were already using the driving range for a week (March 4) and regular play started March 17. This year, not so much.
That doesn’t mean that the season’s preparations haven’t started — our Course Superintendent has started to move some snow to prevent ice build up on the greens and our Clubhouse/Pro Shop crew will be starting to dust off the cobwebs beginning this week.
Watch for more news and announcements as things get up to speed around the course.
Believe it or not, we are getting closer to the course opening. With the 2017 season upon us, the Board will once again be looking for members to join various Committees. We are looking for representatives from the Ladies, Men’s and Retirees Clubs to join the: Course Committee (Brad Harding Chair), Building Committee (Tom Milne Chair) and Junior Committee (Pat Paterson Chair). If you are interested in joining one or more of these Committees, please send an email to: email@example.com
Note: You may not be aware that several of the products that were used in the past for keeping our fairways and greens it top condition are not longer allowed due to their harm to the surrounding ecosystem, so Mark has been doing extensive research into alternative products that are eco-friendly and effective.
Calling All Wood Stove Owners
The superintendent in Terrace BC has been using wood ash and composted material as a disease suppressant for a couple years now. The wood ash has some sort of fungicidal properties in it that has been shown to suppress their michrodochium patch during the season. If anybody has a wood stove and burns just clean wood, no garbage and they could save me their ash when they clean there stoves that would be great. You can contact me at the shop if you have some ash to donate.
Turf Care Blog
I have started a blog for the turf care department and will be updating it regularly with information of what is happening on the course and why we do certain procedures. It can be viewed at birchbankturfcareblog.wordpress.com

Thanks to everyone on our Bistro, Pro Shop and Grounds staffs for making the event possible, to Dennis & Margo for overseeing everything and to GT Car Wash for once again sponsoring this very popular event.
